The Directorate General of Merchant Marine is the authority responsible for the overall management of shipping and the Spanish civil fleet, under the supervision of the Directorate of General Secretariat of the Ministry of Transport.

In December 2011 Vox Maris was evaluated and approved by the DGMM, allowing its usage for Professional Training (GOC and ROC certificates).
